Reporting software for operators and group functions

One signed-off model of the business. Built with you and kept by you.

Capstone holds that model: the systems, the Excel workbooks, and the rules that turn them into the figures your board sees. Every number is validated where it is captured, and locked once it has been reported.

On the platform today: Anglo American, African Rainbow Minerals, Valterra Platinum, De Beers, Tharisa.

The number is still assembled by hand

The group figure is copied from systems into a combined worksheet. Nobody can say where it came from, who signed it off, or what changed since the board saw it. Some of the values, like a safety rate or tCO2eq, do not live in any one system. The month closes late, and the audit takes longer.

SUM(withdrawal) / SUM(tonnes) at each level. The formula runs again. Ratios are not averaged.

Sites A and B draw from water-stressed catchments, so their figures carry the GRI 303-3 tag in the model.

How Capstone works

Four steps, in order.

  1. 01

    Connect

The plant system stays, the safety system stays, the Excel workbooks stay. Capstone reads all of them, so nobody is copying between them.

  2. 02

    Validate

The person closest to the data signs it off at capture. Data is locked when the reporting period closes. Change requests are tracked and approved. Capstone governs your data quality.

  3. 03

    Calculate

Site figures roll up, then the formulas evaluate at organisation level. A ratio is computed from the totals. It is never an average of site ratios.

  4. 04

    Report

Board reports, monthly reports, and dashboards read the same locked figures. Power BI can still draw the chart. They agree because they come from one model.

Connects to Excel workbooks, APIs, SQL Server, and financial systems like Xero and Sage.

How a number holds an audit

Every number can answer three questions. That is what an audit is actually asking for.

  • Where it came from. The source system, the workbook, the reading. Traced back from the figure on the page.
  • Who signed it off. The person who validated it at capture, and when. Periods lock once reported.
  • What changed since. Every change request against a locked figure, with its reason, on the record.

Ask the model a question

You can ask the model questions in plain language, and the answers come from the model itself. The same validated figures and formulas that produce your reports, not an AI's general impression of your business.

How much of our March withdrawal came from water-stressed areas?

800 of the 1,095 ML withdrawn in March (73%) came from Sites A and B, which draw from water-stressed catchments. The split is ready for GRI 303-3 and comes from the signed-off site figures.

Why is Site B higher than last March?

Site B withdrew 388 ML compared to 341 ML last year, which is an increase of 14%. The March figure is signed off and locked, and one restatement is open against it. There is a change request (142), awaiting approval.

Enterprise fit

Sources

Excel workbooks, SQL Server, and systems already in the business. We connect. We do not replace the working systems. We can replace Excel capture.

Security and hosting

Your tenant, on Azure, or hosted by you. Row-level access and roles. POPIA applies and we put it in the agreement. Lineage, locks, and change requests stay on the record.

Implementation

You bring the report, source access, and someone who knows the workbook. We sit in the files until the number holds. Weeks, not quarters. Then it is yours to run.

Two ways to buy Capstone

With a team

We build the model with you and stay until the reporting comes out of it. Then it is yours to run.

License only

You have the people and you want the product. Build the model yourself. Call us when you want a hand.

Seats are priced by role: view, capture, admin. Implementation is scoped per engagement. We will walk you through both on the call.

Capstone runs group reporting at these companies today. Most are mining groups. The problem of scattered numbers that have to survive an audit is the same in any industry.

Since 2019

2 months → 2 weeks

Group sustainability reporting closes in two weeks instead of two months.

Capstone validates 3,500 inputs and runs 1,650 calculations, each signed off at source.

“They have been professional and technically strong on the SHE and sustainability system, and their support stays reliable.”

Eight mines report ESG into a single model.

The 1,153 data points that used to live in spreadsheets are now captured and validated in Capstone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we have to replace our systems?

No. Your systems keep doing their job. Capstone reads from them and from the workbooks next to them.

Is this another dashboard?

No. Dashboards sit on a number. We build the model the number comes from. You can keep your Power BI investment and use Capstone as a better source of data.

How long before we see something?

Weeks, not quarters. We start with the report that takes a week and put it on the model first. At ARM, each site took about two weeks of modelling effort.

What is Capstone?

One model of the business: the systems, the workbooks, and the rules that turn them into reported figures. License and support. The page above is the product.

What does it connect to?

The systems you already run, and the Excel workbooks next to them. We integrate with plant systems, SQL Server, APIs, and financial systems like Xero and Sage.

Where does our data live?

In your tenant, on Azure, AWS, or hosted by you. POPIA applies and we put it in the agreement.

What do we keep if we cancel?

The license lapses. Exports to your own warehouse run all along. The model definition is documented, not trapped.

The first report is the conversation.

Twenty minutes. You bring the report that still takes a week. We show what the Capstone model of it would look like.
